Alu Tikki is a popular Northern Snack made of potatoes. It can be used as a chaat, in making burgers or tea time favorite.

Aloo Tikki (Potato Cutlets)

Ingredients

Bread 4 slices
Water 1 cup (240 ml)
Potato (boiled, peeled and mashed while still hot) 6 medium-sized
Green Chillies (finely chopped) 2 tablespooon
Mint leaves (finely chopped) 1½ tablespooon
Onion (finely chopped) 1 medium-sized
American Corns (boiled) 1/2 cup (120 ml)
Salt To Taste
Red chilli powder 1/2 teaspoon
Cumin Seeds 1 tablespoon
Oil 3 tablespoon
Bread Crumbs 1/2 cup

Method

  1. Immerse each bread slice in water for 15 seconds. Squeeze out and discard water. Break bread into tiny pieces. Mix bread and all ingredients except oil. Make around 12 patties about 6 cm in diameter, 1.5 cm thick.
  2. Heat frying pan on medium heat about 2 minutes. Add 1 tablespoon oil and heat about 30 seconds. Spread oil in base of pan.
  3. Put each patties in bread crumb and add 4 patties at a time in pan. Fry on both sides till golden brown (about 2 minutes on each side). Remove them.
  4. Fry remaining patties in the same way as in Step 3, adding and immediately adding 1 tablespoon oil in pan for each batch. Serve hot, accompanied with chutney or tomato ketchup.
